Saleor Community Update: November

We hosted our very first Saleor Community Live Update on Nov 30th. Read on to learn more about what was discussed during the live stream.

React Storefront

Saleor is a headless commerce platform powered by GraphQL. The Saleor API allows users to integrate it with a wide variety of front-end frameworks.

In order to streamline the process of building storefronts, we decided to build our own starter kit. The goal of this project is to incorporate our experience in building e-commerce solutions. The starter kit is intended to help you build production-grade storefronts faster and easier. The project is called React Storefront and it gives you a solid starting point when building e-commerce applications in React.js on top of the Next.js framework. We believe it is a great way to kick off the development of an e-commerce application using React.js and Next.js.

We are also working on a comprehensive, step-by-step tutorial on how to build storefronts with Saleor and GraphQL using Next.js.

Release plan for Saleor 3.x

Saleor 3.x is still a beta version we recommend using for new projects. It’s our biggest release to date. There are significant changes in the API compared to 2.11. Saleor 3.x introduces multi-channel & multicurrency support, an improved content editor for pages and descriptions, improved refund feature, and much more.

There is no specific release date. Our plan is to release it when it’s ready.

Dashboard updates

We’ve developed MacawUI—a React UI library with the look and feel of our dashboard. It can be used for creating Saleor apps. You can find most of the elements used in the creation of the Saleor dashboard interface and use it to create projects for your specific purposes. You can find storybook documentation here. We’ll also dive more into MacawUI in the next community updates.

Community Update November

We also answered questions from the community that we received before and during the live stream. If you have any questions you feel we should address in the upcoming December Community Update, please let us know on GitHub Discussions
